Death probe ongoing

Police investigation of the January 24 case in which three Myanmar workers were found shot dead at a Chai Buri district rubber plantation was ongoing and had made progress, Surat Thani police chief said yesterday.

Pol Maj-General Apichat Boonsriroj said police treated crimes committed against Myanmar workers with the same diligence it used to treat those committed against Thais, adding that the Myanmar Embassy would be kept updated.
The three workers were identified as Chit Phu, 14, Kyaw Htoo, 29, and San Min, 22.
On Monday, a Thailand-based migrants’ rights NGO urged the Myanmar government to intervene in the case. Foundation for Education Development director Htoo Chit was quoted as saying: “If the government collaborates more with the local NGOs and with the Thai authorities, we could see fewer cases in the future.”
