Rayong resort ordered to demolish park bridge

The Khao Laem Ya-Mu Koh Samet National Park yesterday insisted the Rayong Resort Hotel must demolish its 380-metre-long bridge pier within 30 days, which expires on March 7 - after which period the park would tear it apart itself.

Park head Sumet Saithong said the Rayong Resort Hotel had a right to file a lawsuit against the park’s order, but the park also had its duties to perform.
The bridge pier, which was built since 1985, illegally extends into the park as the Marine Department’s original permit allowed for a 110-metre long pier, and the bridge pier construction also did not get permission from the Forestry Department. In November, the park demanded that the hotel explain the structure then it send a second letter informing the hotel to demolish the bridge pier in 30 days.
