Seehanat Prayoonrat, secretary-general of the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO), said yesterday he had discussed the idea with National Police chief General Somyot Poompanmuang, who agreed that such facilities would be opened at or near buildings in the area; they would be supervised by Tao Poon Police.
AMLO had seized some buildings in the area but allowed some owners to continue using them at their request – only to find that gambling dens were reopened surreptitiously in them, which prompted an Army-police raid last week that turned up firearms.
The Bt11-million property in a 1,000-sqm compound is believed to belong to a former senator, but the title deed lists a food vendor as the owner.
AMLO took over the buildings in early 2013.
