Ex-KMITL feels targeted in Bt1.6 billion probe

A former rector of King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) yesterday lodged a petition with the Ombudsman's Office saying he was being unfairly targeted by police in the investigation into the theft of Bt1.6 billion from the institute's

Thawil Phuegma, speaking to reporters after filing the petition, also accused officials from two unnamed commercial banks of helping with the theft or benefiting from it on a 50:50 basis.
“There is no way the KMITL executives could have done it alone, especially when it concerns such a large sum of money,” he added.
In his petition, Thawil said the rector who preceded him and the one who succeeded him had not been interrogated as thoroughly by the police.
He also queried the police statement that they only had some 30 per cent of the transaction documents and evidence, and asked why they were not pursuing the remaining 70 per cent more actively.
He said police investigators’ work was not satisfactory as they had chosen not to interview the former rectors, adding that the money had already been stolen before he was in charge from July 2012 to November 2013.
