Probe into KMITL theft to be ready on Monday

The police investigation into the Bt1.47-billion embezzlement from King Mongkut's Institute |for Technology Ladkrabang will be completed on Monday, Pol Maj-General Akkharadej Phimolsri, acting Crime Suppression Division commander and chief investigator, s

The investigation report will contain 8,000 pages in 24 volumes, he said. CSD investigators will recommend prosecution of 14 suspects, including former rector Professor Thawil Phuegma and lecturer Sappasit Limnorarat, as well as key suspect Kittisak Matthujad, who is still on the run.
Deputy CSD chief Colonel Kornchai Khlaikhlueng, commenting on Thawil’s recent petition to the Ombudsman’s Office alleging he had been treated unfairly by the police, called on Thawil to cite the evidence he said police had failed to obtain.
Kornchai said police had interviewed two other former rectors, countering Thawil’s claims that he was the only one interviewed before being eventually included as a suspect. The colonel said police were confident that the evidence against the suspects was concrete and sufficient.
Asked about two high-profile suspects – Somphong Sahaphorn-udomkarn and Thawatchai Yimjaroen – having contacted police to turn themselves in, Kornchai said it was a rumour and it was now too late for any suspects to cooperate.
He said police had information that both of them and Kittisak had fled overseas.
