Malaysian held at Phuket airport for fake credit cards

Tourist police have arrested a Malaysian at Phuket International Airport for having fake credit cards in his possession.

The arrest of Mohd Jaris Tan Bin Abdullah, 50, was announced late on Saturday night after an examination by officials from Kasikorn Bank and police confirmed that the credit cards were forged.
“We got a tip-off from the bank,” Phuket Tourist Police Station inspector Major Uramporn Khundeksamrit said.
The Malaysian was arrested shortly after he deplaned from AirAsia flight FD3017 from Don Mueang to Phuket at 5.05pm on Saturday.
Uramporn said records showed the suspect had travelled to Thailand seven times in February. He said the suspect’s conversations with his alleged accomplices on the WeChat programme revealed that the gang had used fake credit cards in Bangkok and Songkhla.
“We believe the suspect was going to use the fake credit cards to withdraw cash and buy expensive products in Phuket,” Uramporn said.
The suspect is in detention pending further legal actions.
