Fire rages at Pattani dumpsite

A dumpsite caught fire in Pattani's Muang district yesterday afternoon, damaging a ten-wheel truck and a backhoe.
The fire took place around 1pm at the dumpsite behind a scavenger yard, located opposite the Pattani Prison. The closest residential homes were only 200 metres away and fire sent black smoke to surrounding areas. It took 20 fire engines about four hours to bring the fire under control.
An initial police investigation found that the hot and dry weather might have caused heat and subsequent sparks, which resulted in fire. Or someone might have discarded a lit cigarette onto the garbage pile.
