Shankar Bahadur Thapa, deputy director of Nepal's Department of Education in planning and monitoring, said that the earthquake last month affected over 16,000 schools nationwide as all were closed for 15 days. After the incident, the government has scrambled for a budget to restore damaged schools and provide temporary accommodation to teachers and students.
Nepal's Education Ministry has put great emphasis on the NEA project, to ensure maximum efficiency in budgeting amid post-quake limitations, he added.
He attended the workshop National Education Account together with representatives from Vietnam, Laos and Nepal. The workshop was supported by Unesco Institute for Statistics (UIS), to ensure improvement in education budget allocation.
