Trilateral meet mulls issue of migrants

Thailand, Myanmar and Indonesia met yesterday at a Pattaya hotel to discuss suppression of trafficking of Rohingya and other migrants on the Indian Ocean.

The two-day meeting, sponsored by the Australia-Asia Programme to Combat Trafficking in Persons, was independent of the May 29 meeting with many countries except Myanmar on the same issue. The details on yesterday’s meeting were not immediately available, but its objectives were to work out joint solutions while addressing the abuse of migrant labour in all three countries’ fishery and seafood industry and establishing sustainability of the three countries’ cooperation.
