PM to watch final of sepak takraw

PRIME MINISTER Prayut Chan-o-cha will reserve some time during his two-day official visit to Singapore to attend the final of the men's doubles sepak takraw competition between Thailand and Myanmar at the SEA Games today.

If the Thai side wins, he could be invited to award the gold medal to the national team, Yuthasak Sasiprapha, president of the National Olympic Committee of Thailand, said yesterday.
The Thai team is likely to claim the top trophy in the sport that the country has dominated for years.
Prayut left yesterday for the city-state at the invitation of his counterpart Lee Hsien Loong.

Boosting trade ties
The trip is aimed at strengthening tourism, trade and investment ties and boost the confidence of Singapore’s private sector in Thailand’s stability.
Singapore is the seventh Asean country that Prayut has travelled to as prime minister.
Prayut joined a leaders’ retreat with Lee and other ministers and witnessed the signing of four agreements and memoranda of understanding on transport tourism, digital market productivity and digital market information sharing between the Federation of Thai Industries and Singapore’s business sector.
The two leaders gave a joint press conference before proceeding to a dinner banquet hosted by Lee.
Prayut and his wife will today observe an orchid-naming ceremony before leaving to watch the sepak takraw match.
He will also meet Singaporean business leaders before returning to Bangkok.
