The Home Minister said the masterminds were now being interrogated. He, however, declined to reveal the exact number of suspects that were handed over to the police by their Thai counterpart.
Dr Ahmad Zahid said arrangements were also being made to bring to Malaysia a man known as Yassin who is believed to be the main agent of the syndicate.
"We are working with Thai authorities to bring him back and charge him," he said to reporters after receiving a courtesy call from French ambassador to Malaysia Christophe Penot here on Monday.
Yassin, a Rohingya from Myanmar, is suspected to be the main agent behind the human trafficking camps uncovered by Malaysian authorities in Wang Kelian, Perlis early last month.
Kedah Rohingya Society in Malaysia deputy chairman Yusof Ali recently said Yassin, who is in his 30s and lives in southern Thailand, was the agent responsible for buying Rohingyas and Bangladeshis from a syndicate in southern Thailand at a fixed price.
The migrants were then housed temporarily at transit camps in Wang Kelian before being sold to other parties.
