BMA eyes Dutch flood monitoring software

OFFICIALS from Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), impressed by the flood stimulation software in Rotterdam, want to adapt similar system here. But Bangkok's system to monitor and stop flooding will still need an upgrade and hardware development b

BMA deputy permanent secretary Adisak Khantee reported yesterday on the result of Bangkok Governor MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra’s June 9-11 visit to the National Research Institute on Water, Subsoil, and Infrastructure at Deltares in the Netherlands.
He said Sukhumbhand was interested in the Dutch city’s use of “Circle” flood forecasting and infrastructure impact assessment software. He said the Circle software predicted two flood scenarios at 25cm-deep and 50cm-deep levels during a storm surge and possible impacts to infrastructure such as electricity, water supply, drainage or hospitals. It allowed each agency’s representatives to better prepare for a disaster and rehabilitation work.
