Thailand has set a budget of more than 7 trillion yen for infrastructure transport development for the next eight years in a bid to reduce logistics costs and increase the competitiveness of Thailand and also the Mekong region.
Prayut on Saturday addressed an audience in Bangkok comprising the heads of Mekong countries Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam and more than 1,000 Japanese businesspeople. The sectors especially in need of investment were agriculture, processed agricultural products, and high technology-oriented industries as well as recycling and alternative energy. This was in line with the Japanese government's policy to promote SMEs to expand its investment abroad, especially in the Mekong region, as an extended production base of Japan.
