Asean culture to feature at art centre

THE CULTURE Ministry will officially launch the country's first Asean Cultural Centre next month at the same compound as the Rajdamnoen Contemporary Art Centre.

Culture Ministry permanent secretary Dr Apinan Poshyananda met with relevant officials last week to discuss the centre including the Foreign Affairs Ministry’s Department of Asean Affairs head and diplomats and representatives from nine Asean member states.
At the meeting it was determined that a review of the countries’ exhibitions at the centre was needed to ensure they were clear portrayals of the nations’ identities and outstanding features, Apinan said.
Sunait Chutinatharanon, a former director of Chulalongkorn University’s Institute of Asian Studies, was appointed to verify the accuracy of the exhibited information.
The centre will promote the identities, ways of life and histories of each member country over the past 48 years through multi-media presentations which will engage visitors in fun ways, Apinan said.
“We agree that the centre will enhance ties through cultural dimensions and encourage better understanding other than through the perspectives of economy and investment,” he said.
