Don Mueang gets 32 more staff

Airports of Thailand Tuesday added 32 staff to help examine baggage at Don Mueang International Airport after new security measures imposed last Friday were abruptly cancelled.

AOT president Nitinai Sirismatthakarn said that the measures caused chaos on Monday. Passengers formed long queues and many nearly missed their flights.
But to ensure that the security measures comply with international standards, the measures would be enforced soon, he noted, In the preparation process, more officers have been assigned.
Currently, Don Mueang is accommodating 22 million passengers per year, above its full capacity of 18.5 million.
Congestion is expected to ease once a terminal under renovation is open in September. With the new terminal, the airport's capacity will be raised to 30 million per annum.
