Top bureaucrat sacked

Sompong Arunrojpunya, an inspector-general at the Office of the Interior Ministry's Permanent Secretary, has been dismissed from civil service since June 23, according to the PM's Office announcement published in the Royal Gazette yesterday.
The former Bung Kan governor was involved in the insecticide procurement scandal in 2011 in which insect disaster zones were falsely declared. The National Anti-Corruption Commission had set a fact-finding sub-committee to investigate Sompong and others since last October.
