Baht falls on yuan devaluation

The Thai baht fell sharply against US dollar on Tuesday, following the surprise devaluation of the Chinese yuan.

From Monday closing of 35.09, the Thai currency plunged by 0.74 per cent to 35.32 as of 3.21pm.
Regional currencies have also been sliding.
The weaker yuan is believed to help boost China's exports and the economy. Other currencies are expected to weaken as other countries need to maintain their export competitiveness.
