PM to name new police chief on Friday

The new police chief should be named on Friday, national police chief Pol General Somyot Pumpunmuang said Tuesday, adding that the final decision lay in the hands of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.
He also said that he would accept Prayut’s choice like a well-disciplined public servant, but would also be happy to provide suggestions and advise the PM about each candidate.
“I have no idea who the premier will choose, but I think the answer will be known by August 14, because the name will be proposed to the meeting,” he said.
