Cabinet extends free rides of buses, trains to October

The Cabinet Tuesday resolved to extend free bus and train services until the end of October, Deputy Government Spokesman Maj Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd said.

The Cabinet made the decision after it sent back a proposal of the Transport Ministry for a re-study.
The ministry proposed that the Cabinet end the free bus and train services and instead halve the fares for low-income people who earn no more than Bt3,632 a month.
The Cabinet asked the Transport Ministry to study and come up with measures for differentiating low-income people. The Cabinet also asked the ministry to clarify whether the Bt3,632 criteria would be applied to provincial people or Bangkok residents as well, Sansern said.
