Selfie passion costs user life in Gujarat

With the proliferation of mobile phones with cameras, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has popularised the 'art' of taking selfies. But the craze for taking a selfie has cost a human life in south Gujarat during the weekend.

A 24-year-old youth from Surat, Ajay Doshi was killed when he fell off a rock while leaning to take a selfie with the Gira water falls in Dangs district of south Gujarat on Saturday.
Gira water falls is a popular tourist destination of Gujarat.
Doshi, along with his friends, had gone to the Gira water falls on a day-long picnic. Despite warnings, he had climbed to the top of a rock over the water falls.
As he leaned too much to click a selfie, Doshi slipped from the rock and fell about 40 feet to the bottom of the water falls. He suffered serious head injuries and was washed away by the gushing waters of the falls. His body could be fished out only on Sunday morning. The deceased youth was working as a supervisor in a private school in Surat.
