ON THE OCCASION of Her Majesty the Queen’s birthday, which is marked as Mother’s Day in Thailand every year, social-media users expressed their love for their mothers in different ways.
Many users changed their profile picture to one taken with their mum, while others changed their Facebook status to show how they marked Mother’s Day. As for those whose mothers had passed away, they shared the good times they had together.
Also, many women who have children of their own expressed their love for their mothers as well as their children, saying they realised the greatness of motherhood. As for those living away, they opted for FaceTime to voice their love.
Sakulsri Srisaracam, a lecturer at Panyapiwat Institute of Management and a mother herself, expressed her love by sharing photographs of her and her mum along with the message: “I wouldn’t have got this far or be me today if I didn’t have you #happymothersday.”
Many activities were held to mark Mother’s Day, and participants shared their experiences. One such activity was the August 12 Half Marathon Bangkok 2015, Run for Mom, event. Organised by the NCC Management and Development Co, the event was held at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre and people shared their experiences and photographs via hashtags #runformom and #halfmarathonbangkok2015.
Meanwhile, the residents of U Delight Condominium near the yet-to-be-opened Bang Son Skytrain station turned their light on and off together to depict the word “mum” in Thai.
Online, Facebook and Google also joined Thailand in celebrating Mother’s Day. Google created a #GoogleDoodle, while Facebook sent a personalised message to all its users in Thailand in honour of Her Majesty and all mothers in the nation.
The National Science and Technology Development Agency’s director Thaweesak Koanantakool and the agency’s staff joined the celebration by dressing in blue and forming the shape of a heart at the Science Park. A photograph was taken and posted on social media to show their love and respect for the Queen.
Telecom giant Total Access Communication (DTAC) showed its loyalty and devotion to Her Majesty by bringing all its staff together to sing the Royal Anthem and the King’s Anthem and toast the beloved Queen in front of her portrait at DTAC House in Chamchuri Square. Chief executive officer Lars-Ake Norling also paid tribute to Her Majesty in a speech, acclaiming the work she has done for the benefit of Thai citizens via several royal projects.
DTAC is also one of the sponsors of tomorrow’s “Bike for Mom” bicycle rally, which will bring together people from across the country to express their love for the Queen.
