Campaign to cut use of plastic bags

PRIME Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has urged the public to reduce their use of plastic bags and styrofoam as the government declared waste management a national priority.

In his Friday night address on his weekly TV programme “Returning Happiness to Thai People”, the premier said the new campaign promoting sustainable waste management was launched by the government and 15 major shopping centres and convenience stores.
Under the campaign, which started yesterday, shoppers are urged to bring cloth bags when they shop on the 15th of every month instead of using in-store plastic bags.
Participant retailers include Central, The Mall, Makro, Robinson, Big C, and Tesco Lotus.
