New public health minister has high expectations

THE FOCUS on integrating the National Health Security Office (NHSO) and the Public Health Ministry to boost the efficiency of health-service zones would yield clear results this year, newly-appointed Public Health Minister Dr Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn sai

He has also called on all ministerial departments to show their achievements in the next six months.
Permanent Secretary Dr Narong Sahametapat and senior officials welcomed the minister on his first day at work, and Piyasakol declared his policy of getting all agencies to cooperate and work together in the same direction.
He also revealed his team of advisers, comprising Dr Seri Tujinda, Dr Thawat Sunthrajan, Dr Kittisak Klubdee, Dr Mayura Kusum and Dr Chatree Bancheun.
Piyasakol said he had previously spoken to Narong and his deputy, and felt like they were “brothers who had come together to work for the ministry’s success”.
The minister said his policies would emphasise the integration of the NHSO and the ministry’s role in providing effective healthcare to people at all levels. Calling on all departments to maintain good values, he said he expected them to show achievements in six months.
“I didn’t ask for this job, I was given it so I could perform my duties for the majority’s benefits.
“I don’t see any conflicts, but differing views among good and able people, who will offer greater benefits to the public if they work together in the same direction,” he said.
He added that he would start by listening to all sides in the 12 health-service zones before making any decisions.
When asked what in particular he had been assigned to do, Piyasakol said he had been told to help with the workings of the ministry, and since he has the cooperation of many people, it should go well.
