PM says he'll deal with Thaksin rank issue

Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha said he has received a recommendation from the national police to strip fugitive former premier Thaksin Shinawatra of his police rank - but has yet to sign it.

Yesterday at Government House, Prayut said he alone would decide on whether to sign and act in accordance with the recommendation and he would hold no further discussions on the matter with the Cabinet.
“If I sign it, the proposal will then be submitted to His Majesty the King for Royal endorsement,” the premier explained.
In a related development, a retired police officer has filed a petition to the Administrative Court claiming that the Police Act of 2014, which was used to strip Thaksin of his police rank, was unjustly used.
Pol Colonel Banjob Sudjai, president of the Retired Police Club, was accompanied by his lawyer to file the petition yesterday. Banjob added that according to the Police Act, the national police chief had no authority to issue a regulation regarding the stripping of police rank from an officer no longer serving on the police force.
