Top tutors are providing free classes to thousands of Mathayom 6 students in the eastern province of Rayong as part of a project initiated five years ago by a non-profit organisation.
This project aims to boost students’ knowledge as well as improve their chances of excelling in the General Aptitude Test (GAT) and Professional Aptitude Test (PAT), both of which are very important for university admission.
The free classes cover eight key subjects, including English, Thai, social studies, physics, chemistry and maths and so far, some 2,400 students have benefited from the project.
“We have implemented this project for five consecutive years now as we hope to increase educational opportunities for Rayong youth. We wish to see more Rayong students get enrolled at leading state universities,” Community Partnership Association’s executive Parichat Asawakul said.
The association joined forces with several different partners for the project.
“This project is great. I don’t have to travel to Bangkok to study with famous tutors,” said Kamontip Suksert, a Mathayom 6 student.
Sirapop Samutrat, also a Mathayom 6 student at Rayongwittayakom School, said students in the provinces had less access to tutorial classes compared to their peers in Bangkok.
“So, the tutoring project by the Community Partnership Association is very good for us,” he said.
Mananya Arsayuth, a student from another school in Rayong, said it was necessary for students to take tutorial classes during their free time so they can acquire additional skills and knowledge. Hence, she said, she was pleased that the foundation has brought the project to her hometown.
This year, free classes are offered for the months of August and September.
“Mathayom students are at a turning point in life,” Somsak Thongniam, who heads Educational Services Area 18 Office, said referring to the importance of this project.
In addition, the Community Partnership Association is launching other projects for Rayong-based youths, including scholarships for nursing and medical students.
