Chaw Sandi Htun was charged under Section 34(D) of the Electronic Communications Law, over a post titled “Why not wear pieces of her htamein as bandanas (uniforms) if you love her so much?”
The post included a photo of the National League for Democracy leader giving a speech beside another photo of Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing giving a speech to fellow military members.
Section 34(D) prohibits defamation and spreading misinformation about organisations on the Internet.
Chaw Sandi Htun just arrived at the Damazawti Meditation Centre with her mother when police arrested her and brought her to the Maubin Township police station. She has been detained at the station.
“She is used to going to meditation centres, specifically the Damazawti centre. Around 20 policemen came and arrested her in front of her mother,” said a close relative who asked not to be named.
