Security to be beefed up for Loy Kratong, New Year's celebrations

The government will step up security precautions during the upcoming festive season, which includes next Wednesday's Loy Kratong and New Year's celebrations in response to a heightened concern following the Paris attacks.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said Thailand needs to tighten security measures even though there is a limited government budget.
Tourism and Sports Minister Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul said Prayut had issued an order for increased security precautions for the major festive events to ensure public safety.
The tourism ministry will work closely with the Royal Thai Police and the Tourist Police Division in stepping up measures during these events, with tourist police to be assigned to take extra care of group tourists visiting the country,” she said.
