‘Illegal’ workers detained by the vanload

Army and police in the border province of Sa Kaew’s Wattana Nakhon district Monday intercepted three vans carrying 26 undocumented Cambodian workers and three accompanying children towards Bangkok and nearby provinces.

In one van, officers allegedly found nine illegal workers and arrested driver Thongsai Charee, 39, who reportedly confessed to picking up the workers from the Rong Kleu Market in exchange for Bt1,700 per head. Police said he planned to drop them off at a construction site in Bangkok’s Kasetsart University area.
In the other van, officers arrested driver Durian Wongchan, 53, along with nine workers from whom he reportedly collected Bt500 fee per head to take them to Prachin Buri province. In another van, officers arrested driver Prasit Chanthong, 45, while he was transporting six illegal workers to Pattaya City in Chon Buri province in exchange for Bt1,800 per head.
