At least 68 houses were heavily damaged in South Buru district after the magnitude-5.4 quake on Sunday morning, said Sutopo Nugroho, spokesman for the National Disaster Management Agency.
More than 170 homes suffered less serious damage, he said.
The quake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres with its epicentre 66 kilometres south-east of South Buru.
Indonesia sits on the Pacific Ring of Fire, a string of volcanoes and sites of seismic activity.
