TPL's proposed expansion scrapped

Thai Premier League board Monday opted to maintain the status quo of the country’s top-flight league after facing widespread opposition to its proposed league expansion.

The idea to expand the TPL from 18 to 20 teams next season was mooted at the previous board meeting, citing concerns about the legal threat after BEC Tero Sasana, one of three relegated clubs, went to court over the dispute over the TPL’s controversial decision to allow their 1-0 home loss to Bangkok United to stand despite the latter fielding an ineligible player.
