Saharat Boonpotipukdee, a deputy governor as well as spokesman for Egat, said that incorrect information has been frequently posted on social media, causing misunderstanding and eroding public confidence in the state enterprise.
“We’re open to comments and recommendations and ready to clarify any genuine questions,” said Saharat. He urged the public to direct the questions to the Call Centre 1416.
“Yet, those who disseminate any inaccurate or defamatory information against Egat on social media as well as those sharing such information must take responsibility and also may be subject to penalties according to the Computer Crimes Act BE 2550. They may be subject to libel charges under the Criminal Code as well,” he added.
In a recent post, Egat was accused of raising fuel tariffs (FT) amid a fall in oil prices and paying out the profits as employee bonuses.
The agency clarified that the FT was determined by the Energy Regulatory Commission and that the rates had been cut three times in 2015 for a combined amount of 22.62 satang per unit.
