CDC to discuss with Cabinet over draft suggestions

Constitution Drafting Commission (CDC) chairman Meechai Ruchupan on Tuesday said he had not yet discussed with the Cabinet on its proposal on draft constitution and its implication.

The Cabinet last week asked the CDC to consider adding a special set of rules or an exception to the rule for transition period after the next general election without elaborating how and how long before entering full democracy. It said the mechanism would help prevent the country falls in turmoil like what happened before the May 2014 coup.

When Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam returned from abroad, they would set a schedule for a discussion, Meechai said.

CDC spokesman Udom Rathamarit said drafters had not yet deliberated on the suggestion.
