Govt affirms research support

Deputy Prime Minister Prajin Juntong reiterated the junta's supports to boost Thailand's research capacity.

"Some of our strategies are to increase the number of researchers by 100,000-200,000 in two years and increase the commercialisation rate to at least 85 per cent," he said at an event hosted by Thailand Research Fund.
He referred to the fact that from 34,700 researches, only 40 per cent has been commercialised.
"Innovations from science-based researches will be the significant weapon in leapfrogging the economy, under our roadmap," he said.
He noted that researches would also prepare Thailand to meet external and internal challenges such as greater economic interconnectedness, ageing population and digital challenges.
Thailand Research Fund today presented awards to 21 researches in various areas.
