Red shirts protest against EC's decision against Yingluck

Some red-shirt protesters Friday showed up at Election Commission (EC) office, crying foul over the EC’s move to bring charge against former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra for damages of Bt24 billion resulting from the failed election in 2014.

The protest was staged after the EC on Thursday resolved to sue the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) and the then head of government “Yingluck” for damages over the failed general election  in February 2014.
The protesters, also known as Power of the People, held protesting bands reading “EC must be responsible for the voided election”, “We will sue EC to pay for the damages” and “Biased Somchai”. The last phrase referred to Somchai Srisuthiyakorn, an election commissioner who in 2014 opposed the general election despite his profession and position.
Besides 234 PDRC protesters including its leader Suthep Thaugsuban, Yingluck would be sued for dereliction of duty as she had allowed the election to take place despite the prospect of it being barred by the PDRC. EC called that the former PM pay for the damages.
A representative of the protesters Friday said that the failed election was not Yingluck’s fault. It had been held because the then government did not want the country to move backwards.
The protestesters was preparing to sue against the EC for damages and would continue to move against the EC if it sued against Yingluck for the case again.
