Former DJ gets three months jail over ‘road rage’ incident, then loses job

A FORMER radio DJ was sentenced yesterday to three and a half months in jail for reversing his pickup to hit a car in a “road rage” incident, then lying that his vehicle was hit in the rear.

North Bangkok District Court initially sentenced Patharasak Thiamprasert to seven months in jail but cut his jail term by half after he pleaded guilty.
The court ordered the seizure of his pickup and revoked his licence. He was also ordered to pay Bt170,000 in compensation to the owner of the other car.
The case made headlines after a video clip taken by another driver, showing Patharasak reversing his pickup to hit a Toyota twice, “went viral”. Patharasak later gave an interview at the scene in which he claimed the driver of the Toyota hit his pickup after he refused to give way to allow the car into his lane.
After the clip was shared many times on social media, Patharasak admitted reversing to hit the other car when questioned by police. But when the case was filed against him in court, he pleaded innocent. However, Patharasak made an about-face and pleaded guilty yesterday just before the court delivered its ruling.
The court ruled that Patharasak committed the crime in broad daylight in a public place, so the commuted jail term would not be suspended.
The incident caused Patharasak to be fired as a DJ for 89.5 Sweet FM radio station. He was released on bail after leaving Bt15,000 as a guarantee, pending his plan to appeal for a lighter sentence.
