NACC finds Tarit allegedly unusually rich

The National Anti-Corruption Commission decided Thursday to seek prosecution of former Department of Special Investigation chief Tarit Pengdit for being allegedly unusually rich.

Preecha Lertkamolmart, an NACC member, said the anti-graft body voted unanimously to endorse the finding hat Tarit had unlawfully amassed assets worth Bt346.65 million.
The NACC will forward the investigative report against Tarit to the Office of the Attorney General for charging the former DSI chief in court.
According to Preecha, Tarit had allegedly transferred and had hidden most of the Bt346.65 million assets so the NACC could only freeze Bt90.26 million worth of Tarrit and his wife’s assets.
Preecha said the court will be asked to order the seizure of the Bt90.26 million assets that include Tarit’s four bank accounts worth Bt1.2 million, his wife’s four bank accounts worth Bt236,827.91, a Mercedes Benz car, a Toyotal Alphad car and several plots of land.
Worawit Sukboon, deputy secretary general of the NACC, said the anti-graft body conducted an investigation against Tarit Pengdit after it received a complaint that a house of a senior government official had encroached on a forest reserve in Nakhon Ratchasima.
The NACC conducted an investigation and found that the house belongs to Wassamol, Tarit’s wife. The NACC found that Tarit had never reported the house in his assets declaration so the anti-graft body decided to investigate his assets. The agency found that Tarit could not explain the sources of his assets worth Bt346.65 million.
