Madonna fans angry over four hour wait for concert

Sydney - Madonna fans were not impressed they were kept waiting in the rain outside a Melbourne invite-only performance for four hours, it was reported Friday.

Hundreds of fans had camped for several days outside the theatre in central Melbourne for the scheduled opening at 8:30 pm Thursday, but the doors did not open until midnight, and Madonna only took to the stage until after 1 am.

The concert ended at 3:15 am, and many fans complained at the delay as they had to go to work in just a few hours, the Melbourne Herald-Sun reported.

"Are we doing this in another time zone?" asked a fan on Twitter.

Another told a radio station she gave up and went home.

But those who stayed cheered when Madonna finally appeared wearing a clown outfit riding a tricycle and telling jokes.

She reportedly dedicated her song Intervention to her son Rocco, who refuses to move to New York to live with her. Madonna is in a bitter legal battle with ex-husband Guy Ritchie over custody of Rocco.

Fans could only get tickets through Madonna's fan club, and her management said the delay was due to last-minute rehearsals.

The 57-year-old superstar will perform in arena concerts in Melbourne this weekend before moving to Sydney and Brisbane where her worldwide Rebel Heart tour will end.
