Public debt falls below Bt6-tn mark

Thailand's public debt at the end of January retreated slightly from the previous month when the debt level surpassed Bt6 trillion for the first time in history.

According to the Public Debt Management Office, the end-January public debt value stood at Bt5.98 trillion, or 44.06 per cent of gross domestic product.
Compared to the previous month, the public debt declined by Bt24.38 billion, chiefly due to the Bt22.8 billion reduction in direct government borrowing.
