Court turns DSI down on monk’s arrest order

The Criminal Court refused Tuesday to issue an arrest warrant for Phra Dhammachayo, abbot of Wat Phra Dhammakaya, who has twice cited health problems to explain his failure to report himself to the Department of Special Investigation (DSI).

The DSI sought the arrest warrant on the grounds that Phra Dhammachayo might be attempting to evade legal proceedings, given that he has apparently continued his religious work without a problem.
Samphan Sermcheep, Phra Dhammachayo’s lawyer, told the court yesterday that the monk had fallen ill on Friday and would need 15 days to recover.
