Cambodia's Hun Sen demands media call him `lord’ prime minister

Phnom Penh - Cambodian newspapers must refer to Prime Minister Hun Sen by his full title of "lord" prime minister or lose their licences, local media reported Friday.

The government has issued this demand in the past for Premier Hun Sen and titled top government officials, but the latest threat issued by the Ministry of Information is the most concrete.
Ministry of Information officials told local radio stations they would be barred from broadcasting foreign news programmes that do not abide by the rule, the Cambodia Daily reported.
The ministry also would not renew the licences of media outlets that failed to follow the rule, according to the Phnom Penh Post citing a director in the ministry's information and broadcasting department. Hun Sen was granted the honorific of "Samdech" or "lord" in 1993 by former king Norodom Sinahouk.
Hun Sen has ruled the country in various capacities for the past 30 years.
