BUDDHISTS ARE welcome to take part in religious activities organised by the Department of Religious Affairs to mark Visakha Puja Day today, the Department of Religious Affairs chief Krissanapong Siri said yesterday.

He said one of the activities was to pay respect at nine temples to honour the nine kings of the Chakri Dynasty and they can be accessed both by boat and by car.
The nine temples that people can access by road include Wat Pho (Temple of the Reclining Buddha) or Wat Phra Chetuphon, Wat Arun Rajwararam (Temple of Dawn), Wat Ratcha Orasaram, Wat Ratchapradit Sathitmahasimaram, Wat Benchamabophit Dusitvanaram, Wat Bowonniwet Vihara, Wat Ratchabophit, Wat Suthattepwararam and Wat Rama IX Kanchanapisek.

He said the event, which would include prayers, sermons and meditation, will also provide the public an opportunity to express their loyalty to the monarchy as contributors to Buddhism.
Air-conditioned buses and boats to these temples will be provided free of charge from 8.30am to 4.30pm.
At Sanam Luang, the department will also present an animation film titled “Niramit City at Chittanakhon”, which was written by late supreme patriarch Somdet Phra Yannasangwon.
“The film will give Buddhists the essence of the principles of Buddhism so they can put them to use in real life,” he said.
Meanwhile the Royal Thai Police spokesman Pol General Dejnarong Sutthicharnbancha warned that strict legal action will be taken against those who sell alcohol today. The penalties are up to six months in jail and Bt10,000 in fine.
He said a 24-hour alcohol ban will be put in place across the country from midnight Thursday to midnight today.
