Defendants face court for first time over SCB fire-system deaths

The case against 10 defendants including two firms over the faulty fire-security system at Siam Commercial Bank headquarters in Bangkok that led to eight deaths has reached court.

The malfunction happened on the night of March 13 while work was being done to improve the system. Aerosol was released by accident.
Along with the eight deaths, seven people were seriously injured.
Mega Planet Co Ltd, which SCB contracted to carry out fire-system improvement, and the building’s manager, Jones Lang LaSalle Management Co Ltd, are being prosecuted alongside eight individuals for alleged recklessness leading to the tragedy.
The defendants include Mega Planet executives Napong Suksanguan and Adisorn Foda, as well as an engineer from the company, Jirawat Prempree. Jones Lang LaSalle executive Somkid Tan-ngarm is also being prosecuted.
