Narcotics Suppression Bureau chief Pol Lt-Colonel Rewat Klinkesorn told the press that Laos national Boualapha Simoukda, 47, and Khajorn-amartAmatiyakul, 54, were nabbed and the heroin, plus Bt12,861 in cash and three cellphones confiscated.
The arrest came after police got a tip-off that a Laotian driving a certain car had smuggled drugs into the country, which were to be sent off to Australia.
Upon spotting the car, police followed it to a UPS office a parcel delivery service company in tambon Ban Luam. While one team of officers found 3.5kg of heroin inside the parcel the duo posted, another team followed them and upon arrest, found another 3.5kg of heroin inside the car.
The two men maintained their innocence claiming they had been hired to drop off the box without knowing what was inside. They were initially charged with smuggling heroin and possessing the drug with the intention to sell.
