Premsak stops short of accusing reporters of trepassing

Khon Kaen's Ban Phai district municipality mayor Premsak Phiayura Wednesday morning notified police that reporters allegedly intruded into his office but declined to file a formal complaint against them.

The move followed the Tuesday incident in which Premsak allegedly had his subordinates pull down the pants of a reporter in front of four other journalists at a meeting room in alleged revenge for reports on personal matter. The five reporters, who were also made to hand over their cameras and cell phones to officials before attending the meeting, were seeking Premsak's comment about a photograph of him sitting next to a Mathayom 5 schoolgirl in what appeared to be an engagement or wedding ceremony.
According to Premsak's Facebook post at 8.30am Wednesday, he accused the reporters of intruding into his mayor office and detaining and pressuring him to provide information that wouldn't be of any use for the public benefits. He alleged that the reporters' behaviors violated his personal rights and liberty and kept him occupied in stead of working for the people who sought public services.
Premsak threatened to file a complainst with police against them but when he later Wednesday morning met with Ban Phai police superintendent Pol Colonel Jamras Jandaeng he simply asked police to record the incident without making a formal accusation against the reporters.
In a mean time, the five reporters at 9am went to meet with Khon Kaen police chief Pol Maj General Jitjaroon Sriwanich to discuss what happened and they was slated to later discuss with Khon Kaen provincial governor Khamthon Thawornsathit before deciding whether to file a counter complaint with police.
