PM issues deadline for registering stateless students

PRIME MINISTER Prayut Chan-o-cha has instructed the Interior Ministry to tell provincial governors and district chiefs in provinces that have less than 1,000 stateless, unregistered students to make them Thai citizens next month.

The move is part of a plan to provide thousands of stateless children in the country with |Thai citizenship based on eligibility.
The provinces with less than 1,000 stateless children include Kalasin, Kamphaeng Phet and Ayutthaya, said Government Spokesman Maj-General Sansern Kaewkamnerd Saturday.
Sansern said for provinces with more than 1,000 stateless children such as Ranong, Kanchanaburi and Trat, the premier had ordered governors to directly supervise the process as this would indicate the administrative ability of governors and district chiefs.
