The previous Guinness record was a dance by 540 robots in February in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen.
While 1,040 robots, each 43.8-centimetres tall, had attempted the challenge in the port city of Qingdao, only 1,007 were in motion for the full minute, the official Xinhua news agency reported.
The biggest challenge for remote control of the robots is radio frequency interference from sources such as mobile phones, Xinhua cited Quan Jinyou, chief technology officer of Qingdao-based Ever Win Company, which produced the robots, as saying. Quan said the company used encryption technology to reduce interference.
