More evidence being gathered in cases against Chiang Mai officials

Police are gathering additional evidence over ‘distortion’ of the charter draft before filing charges against 11 suspects with the Chiang Mai military court, Police Region 5 commissioner Pol Lt-General Thanitsak Theerasawat said Wednesday.

He said the 11 suspects faced intense questioning and they face charges of sedition, criminal association, and violating Clause 2 of Article 61 of the referendum law for allegedly distributing letters that “distorted” the charter draft.
He said investigators are hunting for one suspect who is still at large and will issue an arrest warrant for another suspect. Thanitsak added that so far 13 people are believed to be involved.
Police have been deployed to keep a close watch on the 11 suspects, which includes top officials like Chiang Mai Provincial Administrative Organisation president Boonlert Buranupakorn, former Pheu Thai MP for Chiang Mai Thassani Buranupakorn and Changpuak mayor Kachen Jiakkachorn who are all being detained at Police Region 5 headquarters.
