Prison swine flu outbreak ‘under control’ in Narathiwat

Prison swine flu outbreak ‘under control’ in Narathiwat

The H1N1 swine flu outbreak at Narathiwat Prison has been brought under control, the Corrections Department announced yesterday.

The announcement was made after reports that two inmates had died due to the disease.
“They died during the outbreak but the two were at high risk because they had underlying respiratory problems,” Corrections Department staff said.
The department staff said 375 of the prison’s more than 1,600 inmates plus |four officials had developed flu-like symptoms.
All of them are being prescribed medicine for H1N1 as a precaution.
The Corrections Department said an inmate was diagnosed with a high fever and coughing around July 23 but it was not until July 29 that lab tests confirmed he had H1N1, meaning the outbreak had been brought under control quickly.
