Death crash woman completes community service at hospital emergency unit
The Central Juvenile and Family Court was told yesterday that 22-year-old Orachorn “Praewa” Thephasadin na Ayudhya, who was involved in a crash on December 27, 2010, on Bangkok’s Don Muang Tollway that led to nine deaths, has completed her remaining 138 h
The Probation Department told the court that Praewa had served six hours a day since June 27 at Nonthaburi’s Sai Noi Hospital’s emergency unit, during which officials monitored her on a daily basis.
Earlier, Praewa was accused of breaching a court order for her to perform community service as part of her probation condition. After she said she had misunderstood the process and where to perform the service, the court on June 21 allowed her to redo it.
In August 2012, the Primary Court found Praewa guilty of reckless driving causing others’ deaths and property damage and jailed her for two years, suspended for three years, during which time she must perform 48 hours of community service a year. Praewa, who was 17 at the time of the crash, was also banned from driving until the age of 25.
In April 2014, the Appeals Court upheld the ruling and extend the suspended jail term to four years, which was the final ruling on this case as Praewa’s appeal to the Supreme Court was dismissed in 2015.
After the crash victims’ families sued Praewa and her parents for Bt113 million plus 7.5-per-cent interest, the Civil Court ruled on November 26, 2015, that the three defendants in the case must pay Bt26,881,925 plus the interest rate since December 2010 to the families.
