Indonesian flag carrier bans Samsung Galaxy Note 7
Jakarta - Indonesian flag carrier Garuda Indonesia announced on Sunday that it is banning passengers from using and charging the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphone on all its flights.
Company spokesman Benny Butarbutar said the announcement was made following the recent advice from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) after the smartphone was recalled over a faulty battery.
"Due to safety concerns over its battery, we would like to informthat all passengers travelling on Garuda Indonesia who own a Samsung Galaxy Note 7 must turn off this device all the time during flights,"Butarbutar said in a statement.
The smartphone could not even be used in flight mode and could not be recharged onboard, Butarbutar said. "This device must not be kept in any of the checked baggage as well,"Butarbutar said.
He added that the airline has also placed written notices at all of its check-in counters to remind passengers of the ban.
The airline said it would evaluate the ban until the FAA issues new advice.The state-owned airline joined other airlines that have issued thesame announcement, including Singapore Airlines and Qantas.//DPA
